I normally run in the Finger Lakes [NY] region winter rally tsd series and would like to try my first SJR road rally in a few weeks. I plan to introduce my nephew to the sport as my navigator. He lives in Little Egg Harbor.

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Mike Kamm

I just lost my navigator for this weekend's event. My nephew is 17 and told me he could get the day off from work, but now it turns out he can't. I've already sent my check and entry form in, so are there any navigators [experience not required] out there who'd like to join me for the Sunday's event? I run in Limited in a Nissan Sentra.

Edit: I have found a navvie, so I should be all set.

Thanks,

Mike

I have to say that I enjoyed my first SJR road rally yesterday in Pitman. As always, I appreciate all of the effort put forth by the organizers to hold these events. Here are a few pics that I took during morning registration.

Morning driver's meeting.

This was an interesting entry. This fellow [and his wife?] were running their first ever tsd in an all electric MINI. [I will edit this post and fill in the names when the results are posted]. I didn't write down the details he told us, but there are only a small number of these in the country on a trial basis. He said that currently, there aren't any plans to sell them here and this one will need to be turned in soon. He said that's a shame because he wishes he could buy it as he is impressed with it's performance and capability. I think he said he's gone 140 miles without a recharge.

The case where the electronic control systems are stored. The batteries are in the rear cargo area. After the rally I saw it plugged into an outlet behind the restaurant getting "fueled" for the ride home.

As usual, my '89 Sentra was the oldest car in the event.

My navigator for this event was Matt Rhoads. He is seen here getting his new excel laptop program ready for action. Unfortunately, my cigarette lighter outlet developed a problem and we had to resort back to pencil, paper, and on the fly calculations. So although we ran in Limited, our time keeping methods were strictly stock class stuff. All in good fun though. Of course the lighter outlet worked fine after the rally and all the way home- go figure!

This vintage 5.0 Mustang GT was a cool entry, complete with roll bar, and other speed equipment.

Forgive me for the lack of competitor's names. Everyone was new to me and I won't be able to fill in the blanks until the results are posted.

Thanks for posting the pics! It was interesting for me. I have never been to a rally (though that may change this year for the PBX - I will probably work it). Glad you had a good time. I hope you can make it down for a future rally with your nephew!

You're welcome Meg. I'm glad you enjoyed the brief event recap. I always enjoy writing them after each event because as a road rally enthusiast, I find that event recaps with pictures are almost non existent. I have no idea why. It takes only a few minutes of uploading pictures and writing a few captions to create them. In fact, this thread's recap was my first draft. I added far more commentary on my "local" road rally forum HERE.

I'd certainly like to come back and run in a Saturday night event this year, but the April 17th date conflicts with Rally New York, so I'll have to wait until the one after that.

Mike, Can I send our At Speed Editor this link, and can he use any of the pics and story for our newsletter? We'd love to have another perspecitve on our rally coverage!

Absolutely Meg,

Feel free to use any or all of it. My event recaps frequently grace the pages of the FLR newsletters also.

Cheers,

Mike
