Hello All,

Well, it looks like we got the horse ahead of the cart here. I should have posted an announcement regarding the 2009 Winter Series before registration went up. My bad... Sorry.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, in an effort to provide winter activities for their Drivers Club members, New Jersey Motorsports Park officials approached Brian Heun and myself and asked if we would be interested in organizing a winter solo series on the skid pad at the Lighting course for them. Basically, their sanction and insurance, our equipment and people to run the show. It just so happened that our Board of Directors meeting was that same night, so Brian and I presented it to the Board. A motion was made to accept the invitation, and was quickly voted in. This is an honor and a great opportunity for SJR SCCA to continue to grow a strong partnership with NJMP that we hope will last for many years.

Now, on to the details...

Event Dates:

Saturday, December 5th
Saturday, January 9th
Saturday, February 6th
Saturday, March 6th

Who can participate?

Anyone 17 or older with a valid drivers license. While NJMP's goal is to keep their members busy during the off season, they also whole heartedly welcome any and all to participate.

How much does it cost?

$35.00 per event for everyone. Since these are not SCCA events, non-SCCA members do not need to spend an extra $15.00 for a weekend membership.

Who does this benefit?

Well, first of all, you guys, because you get to keep autocrossing throughout the winter! But, seriously, these are NJMP events, so the proceeds go to NJMP. However, part of the proceeds of each of these events will go to charity. For the first event (Dec. 5th), NJMP is hosting a Coats for Kids charity drive. Select local school children, chosen from the school based on need, will visit New Jersey Motorsports Park on December 11 to choose a new winter coat, a pair of gloves or mittens, a hat or a scarf, a book, and enjoy a hot, healthy lunch. Anyone that arrives at the Dec. 5th event with the donation of a new coat will receive a $5.00 discount on your entry fee for that event. (Please note that the coats must be new, with tags attached.) More information about the Coats for Kids program can be found on the NJMP Website

For the remaining three events, NJMP has agreed to generously donate $5.00 of each entry fee to Laps to Conquer MS. For those of you that don’t know, this charity is very near and dear to SJR SCCA. Fay Teal is a long time, and extremely active member of our club. She rarely misses a SJR general membership meeting, or a Race Planning Committee meeting. You will also see Fay working grid at most SJR Club Racing events held here at NJMP, most WDC region events held at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia, as well as many Northern NJ SCCA, and Tri-Region SCCA events at Pocono. Fay Teal also suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. When Fay joined the SCCA, she was an aspiring young race car driver. Today, Fay drives the coolest six-wheel electric scooter in town. She is also one of the most inspirational people I know. Laps to Conquer MS is the result of the efforts of Fay and her husband, Dave Teal (also a long time SJR member, and our Club Racing Chief Starter), to increase MS awareness through motorsports, while raising funds for the National MS Society.

More Info:

After each event, there will be a buffet dinner at the Officer's Club (which is over at the Thunderbolt track) so everyone can get together to warm up and enjoy some chatting about the day's event. Price will be $15.95 per person for all you can eat with a cash bar. The track has requested reservations for the buffet so they can have an idea of those attending. Reservations can be made at: fgruber@njmp.com or 856-327-7204. There will also be an indoor concession stand set up in the classroom for the day. Menus are below.
