Hello All!

Well, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Feb. 2nd, therefore predicting six more weeks of winter weather... :(

So it only seems befitting that exactly seven weeks following Groundhog Day (allowing a one-week fudge factor :) ), we scheduled our first event at NJMP!

So what does that mean to all of you??

It's Worker Recruitment Time!!!

2009 Promises to be an exciting year for SJR Club racing, starting with the March 20-23 weekend which will be a combined SCCA competition school, PDX (Performance Driving Experience), and a Level 2 Time Trials, as well as our official annual tech day. The weekend will kick off with a worker "Mini School" to be held Friday evening, March 20th from 7:00 - 9:30 PM at the Lightning Circuit. Anybody that wants to get started as a track worker is encouraged and welcome to attend. The rest of the weekend promises to be a busy one, so we are in need of volunteers, experienced and newbies alike, for all of the specialties. Registration for this weekend is now open at DLB Racing?, so I encourage all of you to go to the site and register for your preferred specialty.

For those of you who are interested in Tech & Scrutineering, we will be holding an "unofficial" tech day this Saturday, Feb. 21st at the paddock of the Lightning Circuit at NJMP. We are only expecting about a half a dozen cars, so this would be a great time to come, hang out, and see what it takes to do a tech inspection on a race car. We will be getting started around 10:00 AM, and figure to be out of there no later than 2:00 PM. There will most likely be a group stay afterwards at the clubhouse for some food and few drinks, and, again, all are welcome to join in.

Next up for our season will be a National Club Race combined with a TeamDI Pro IT race on the Thunderbolt Circuit June 5 – 7. This will be the first ever SCCA National to be held at NJMP, so we expect a good turn-out of drivers from all over the Northeast Region.

Our third event of the season will be a Regional Club Race on the Lightning Circuit July 17 – 19. This race will be supported by road racing series – NJRRS, NARRC, and we are happy to welcome WDC Region’s MARRS series to our home track this season.

Event four will be another Regional, this time on Thunderbolt Aug. 21 – 23. This race will again be supported by, NJRRS, NARRC, and MARRS.

Our fifth and last event of the year will be the Jersey Road Racing Classic Regional, combined with another TeamDI Pro IT to be held on Lightning Oct. 16 – 18.

Please make note that all of our race weekends are 3 day events this season, so plan accordingly.

The Rolex Grand-Am Sports Car Series will be back on Thunderbolt again this year April 30 – May 3. And, once again, NJMP is looking to the SCCA to help support that weekend with our workers. Support races for the weekend will be the Ford Mustang Challenge series, and the Skip Barber Series. That’s down from - was it four or five support races last season? I don’t remember. Anyway, maybe we will actually get to sit down to eat our box lunches this year! :) Come on out that weekend and show your support for NJMP! (You might even end up on TV!)

Other SCCA supported weekends you should keep an eye on:

May 1 – 3 SCCA Speed World Challenge Series
June 12 – 14 SCCA Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup / Star Mazda Series & Atlantic Championship
Sept. 11 – 13 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup (This is also the ARCA weekend)

"I have taken roads that I wished I had not traveled on. And I'm traveling on some pretty exciting ones, too. Just hope when you get to that great racetrack in the sky, that the balance will tip slightly into those things that you'd be proud of." - Paul Newman
