BOARD MEETING

South Jersey Region-Sports Car Club of America, Inc.

August 2004

The August 2004 meeting of the Board of Directors for the South Jersey Region of the Sports Car Club of America, Inc. was held at the home of Jack Oliver on Wednesday evening, August 4, 2004. The meeting was called to order by R.E., J.D. King at 8:20 PM.

Present were: J.D. King, Jack Oliver, Ed Jenks, Meg Meyer, John Borden, Jim Tornetta, and Sue King. J.D. introduced guest, Jim Thwaite, a long standing member and a whole hearted supporter of the region. J.D. went on to say that he had asked Jim to come to the Board meeting because Jim is interested in the well-being of the region and when someone shows that kind of interest they are more than welcome to come to a Board of Directors meeting.

Treasury – Jack reported a balance of $4,910.00 in the operating account and the CD’s were renewed. Bills were presented for payment.

Solo II – John reported that the event scheduled for August 1, 2004 was cancelled due to the weather. It was reported that sixty people had turned out and stayed around until the weather really got nasty-lightening and torrential downpour. Most folks asked for their entry fee back and some ask that their entry fee be held over until the October event. Sue reported that, as we were wrapping up, a young man arrived – having driven up from Baltimore. He was invited to come back in October. Discussion centered on operational issues and how best to overcome these issues-confusion and miscommunication. John wants to be involved as the Chairman and the one in charge of running the events-to answer all the questions. If it is perceived that there are problems, come to John and he will help to work out these problems. J.D. emphasized that John is the Chairman and the one to make the decisions. Jack stated that the Board gave the Chairmanship to John and John deals with the people who support the program. Jim Thwaite came across a timing system with a cost of $160.00 for the software and a full system, the only thing we need to supply is a laptop, for $700.00 with tech support thru Automotive Metrics. Motion by John that we get the software – this is a 30 day free trial – second by Jim. Discussion – it was felt that Grace should have input on this software, therefore, Jim Thwaite will involve her in the testing process. Motion was carried. October 24th is the next event.

Membership – Meg reported she recently received the June report from National and we have 221 paid members. Jack has gotten the dues check from National.

Tri-Region

– Ed reported that the on-line registration is working. Various officials and specialty chiefs have been named. Everything appears to be in order for the double National scheduled for August 20th, 21st and 22nd.

New Business – J.D. reported that there is an auto show in Millville on August 14th and he was invited to bring his club ford to this event. We have a lot of SCCA literature and he felt that we should have a presence there. Jack felt we should attend as a club. J.D. will check with those folks who are putting on this event and get back to those who would like to be involved. This will be firmed up in the coming week.

Jack mentioned that elections for the Board of Directors is right around the corner. J.D. will ask Fay if she will be the chair again this year.

There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 9:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue King
